Connectivity

If we are to slow down the alarming current rate of species extinction, called by many scientists the sixth great extinction event in earth’s history, protecting hotspots of biodiversity and habitats for rare and vulnerable species is a core strategy.

We know now however, that this is not enough. In the UK, with 70% of land being agricultural, providing effective wildlife refuges and corridors is essential to restore healthy, functioning ecosystems.

Sapperton Wilder is strategically located, linking important nearby hotspots of biodiversity, with nationally important endangered species, bridging the gap between nature reserve and farming. Across the site, land is managed to promote habitat diversity and encourage wildlife corridors.

The project aims to support rare and endangered butterflies, with targets to increase increasing populations of Large Blue, Purple Emperor, Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterflies amongst others. Many other species of flora and fauna will benefit.
