The most recent State of Nature declared that one in five British wildflowers are under threat and in continued decline. Wildflowers and plants in agriculture provide diversity of necessary food and shelter for an array of wildlife.
Master's students undertook flowering plant surveys in 2022 and 2023 to establish a methodology for long-term monitoring and contribute to a baseline, identifying over 100 flowering plant species, including some rare arable plants. In 2024, a full botanical survey was contracted.
Utilising herbal leys, wildflower margins, leaving areas of long grass, integrating livestock, and allowing the hedgerows to expand are all management practices that should help to increase plant diversity.
